Here's how you can make money with your camera wherever you live doing
HOMETOWN FREELANCING
Hometown Photography Business Freelancing Cover

Dear Photographer,

If you don't have the need or desire to have your work published...

If money in your pocket means more to you than the satisfaction of having one of your nicer images on a greeting card...

If you just want to make money with your camera, whether to pay for your hobby or earn some extra cash for whatever it may be...

Then doing local freelance work is, by far, the area of photography that will probably be right for you. Here's why.

Working with agencies and publications takes time. And the pictures you take today may not be used for months, even years, down the road. Many will never be used at all. And working at the national or international level, your photography will almost always be in direct competition with the work of several other fine photographers.

So while publication photography and stock agencies have always been my preferred methods of doing business, I can understand the reasons for someone wanting to work locally and have done a number of things in this market, too. What's nice about working at the local level is that you can collect your payment quickly, often right away.

When I did weddings, I'd collect a deposit just to book the date, 50% of the base package price when they got the proofs, and the balance when the order was delivered. Doing kid's sports, an assistant would collect cash, up front, while I took the pictures. Even speculative work, when it sells, will pay faster locally, whether it's for advertising postcards or the newspaper.

What area of home town freelancing interests you most? Chances are you'll find the information you're looking for in my guide, HOMETOWN FREELANCING!

You'll learn the tips, tricks, and secrets of making money with your camera, right from home. No matter what your photographic interests, there are opportunities avaialble for you to sell your photography in your town, whether you shoot speculatively or seek out assignments.

With HOMETOWN FREELANCING! you generally won't have to shoot the harder to produce slides and transparencies that stock agencies and publishers want, you won't have to wait for weeks or months for an editor's reply, and you won't have to fear the rejection slips that are a big part of publication freelancing.

What kind of photography will make you money, locally?
